Philadelphia Defeats Oklahoma City in NBA Finals

The Philadelphia 76ers won thanks to Jo_e_l Embiid's comeback from injury.

In a home NBA regular season game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday (Feb. 3), Philadelphia prevailed 109-105 at Wells Fargo Center on the strength of 24 points in the first half.

Embiid scored the game-winning free throws in the fourth quarter, dished out seven assists, and grabbed six rebounds in his return to action after a nine-week layoff from knee surgery that ended his season.

Fellow player and future Hall of Famer Allen Iverson praised Embiid after the win.

After dropping to ninth place in the Eastern Conference with a 41-35 record, Philadelphia is hoping to avoid the play-in tournament by returning its key player.

With 37 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter with the score 104-105, Embiid had two chances to win the game at the free throw line, and he converted both of them.

“I was going to come back and score 30, 40 points, but I didn’t,” Embiid said after the game. "It's going to take me a while to get back to believing in myself."

After the defeat, Oklahoma City fell to 52-23, the second-worst record in the Western Conference.

Nikola Jokic scored 42 points to help the Denver Nuggets beat the lowly San Antonio Spurs 110-105.

Under the hoop, Jokic and "monster rookie" Victor Wembaanyama of San Antonio squared up.

In the fourth quarter, Yokichi made it 105-103 with a hook jumper, but Wembanyama tied it again with a layup.

After Michael Porter Jr. put Denver up with a 3-pointer with 28 seconds remaining in regulation, San Antonio failed to score in the final seconds as Wembanyama missed a 3-pointer.

With their record improving to 53-23, Denver took over first position in the Western Conference.
