“Tottenham deserve top 4, give it your best” Arsenal legend's 'hilarious' tribute to the Gunners

Arsenal legend Ian Wright, 61, has gotten a big laugh after saying Tottenham will finish in the 'top four' as a matter of course.

Arsenal cruised to a 5-0 victory over Chelsea in the 29th round of the 2023-2024 English Premier League (EPL) at the Emirates Stadium in London, England, on Thursday (Sept. 24).

With the win, Arsenal amassed 77 points (24 wins, 5 draws, and 5 losses), opening up a gap on second-place Liverpool (74 points) and third-place Manchester City (73 points). However, Liverpool have played one game less and Manchester City two.

Arsenal is in the lead, but if Liverpool and City's form continues, they will likely lose the title. City, in particular, are on a three-game winning streak and the rest of their schedule isn't too bad.

For now, Arsenal will face their North London rivals Tottenham away on October 28th. If the Gunners don't pick up points in this game, experts believe they'll be out of the running for the title. It's a must-win game for Arsenal.

“I still think someone can cause problems for Man City or Liverpool,” Wright told Premier League Productions, “I'm praying for Arsenal because it could go down to goal difference,” he said.

In the three-way race for the Premier League title between Arsenal, Liverpool, and Man City, Tottenham holds the casting boat. After facing Arsenal, Spurs will host Liverpool (May 6) and Man City (May 15).

Glenn Hoddle, 67, responded to Wright by saying that “Tottenham could use some help.” Hoddle is a Tottenham legend and former manager. It was a joke that Arsenal's fate could be decided by their biggest rival.

To which Wright replied, “We might need Tottenham. If Tottenham can do us a favor,” and ‘Tottenham deserve to be in the top four, so I wish them all the best,’ Wright said, drawing laughter from the hosts and the audience. “That's fine,” Hoddle replied.

Arsenal and Tottenham have a history. So much so that Son Heung-min (32, Tottenham) changed his red Ferrari to black. This was to avoid the Arsenal colors. This season, new signing James Maddison was jokingly scolded by chairman Daniel Levy when he arrived at training in a red car.

Despite the North London derby rivalry, Arsenal need Tottenham. If Spurs beat Arsenal, the title is effectively out of Arsenal's reach. That's not to say that fifth-place Tottenham (60 points) can afford to lose. A loss for Spurs would see them slip out of the top four, which qualifies them for next season's UEFA Champions League. They are six points behind fourth-place Aston Villa (66 points), who have played two more games.

Tottenham and Arsenal drew 2-2 in their first meeting this season. Spurs were down 1-2 away to Arsenal before Son Heung-min equalized to tie the game. It was Son's first multi-goal game of the season. Last season, both games were won by Arsenal. Arsenal won 3-1 at home in Round 9 and 2-0 away in Round 20.
