Kim Hae-sung goes silent against strong My Colors
Ha-seong Kim (28, San Diego Padres) was unable to maintain his dominance against Miles Myers (35, St. Louis Cardinals) and was held hitless.
Kim went 0-for-4 at the plate as the Padres' No. 5 hitter in the lineup against St. Louis at Petco Park in San Diego, California, USA, on Wednesday (June 3).
Up until last year, Kim had been very strong against the My Colors, going 3-for-6 with a .500 batting average.
However, he failed to produce a hit in the first meeting this season.
In the second inning, Kim led off with a walk and was hit by Mychal's 149 mph sinker before retiring on a grounder to shortstop.
In the third inning, he also took a sinker from Mychal Colors with two outs, but could only manage a grounder to third base.
In the fifth inning, Kim hit a 139-mph slider from Mychalus for a double, but it was caught by the center fielder.
Kim went deep in all three of his at-bats against Mychalus, bringing his head-to-head record to 3-for-9 (.333 batting average).
In his final at-bat in the eighth inning, Kim was hit by a slider from right-handed reliever Andrew Kittredge and turned it into a grounder to third base.
Kim's season batting average dropped from .269 to .233 (7-for-30).
While he was quiet at the plate, the 2023 Gold Glove winner showed off his skills on defense.
In the fourth inning, Kim made a spectacular catch of Nolan Hernandez's grounder that rolled toward third base, and he made a diving catch to throw to first base.
San Diego fell to 2-5 on the day.
The big blow came in the top of the sixth inning, when Wilson Contreras hit a two-run double to right-center field with two outs.
San Diego starter Darvish Yu suffered his first loss of the season after allowing three runs on five hits and three walks in seven innings of work, but couldn't get any help from his team's offense.
It was Darvish's third start of the season, following the official opener against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Seoul and the mainland opener against the San Francisco Giants, but he has yet to report his first win.
