A thriving company after a name change

The women's professional volleyball team, renamed from KGC Ginseng Corporation ahead of this season, is riding a five-game winning streak and raising hopes for its first "spring volleyball" in seven years after reaching the postseason in 2016-2017.

The third-ranked team in the league (56-18 W-14 L) has started the new year with an 11-2 record. As of the 28th, they are 8′ away from fourth-place GS Caltex (48-17, 15′) and have begun their quest for a semi-playoff-free third place. In the V-League, the top three teams at the end of the regular season (36 games) qualify for the "Spring Volleyball" postseason. However, if the difference between third and fourth place is within three points, the two teams will have to play a single-elimination semi-playoff. While it is difficult for Chungkwanjang to catch up to second-place Heungkuk Life (67-24, 7-7), if they keep up their momentum, they can overtake GS Caltex and go directly to the playoffs without a semifinal. Since finishing third in the 2016-2017 season, Chung has failed to make the playoffs for six straight seasons, finishing fifth, then sixth, then fourth, then fifth, then fourth, then fourth.

The secret to Chung Kwan-Jang's success is analyzed as the success of its foreign players, the "jackpot," the long middle blocker duo of Jung Ho-Young (23-190 cm) and 토토사이트 Park Eun-Jin (25-187 cm). Megawati Putiwi (25-Indonesia, registered name Mega) and Giovanna Milana (26-U.S.A., registered name Gia), who joined the league as one-quarter Asian and one-quarter foreign player, are currently ranked sixth (676 points) and eighth (632 points) in the league in scoring, respectively. The team is the only one to have both Asian and foreign players in the "top 10" in scoring. Before the season began, Chungkwanjang was labeled as a club that hadn't "enjoyed" foreign players, but now it's one of the most successful teams in the league.

Middle blockers Jung Ho-young and Park Eun-jin are ranked fourth and seventh in the league in blocking, respectively. They are a solid duo that also contribute to the offense. Veteran Lee So-young (30) also adds stability to the offense with her receptions and digs to keep the offense flowing smoothly. "The strategy of using Mega as an apogee spiker and Jia, who has good reception and quick feet, as an outside hitter has been effective," said coach Ko Hee-jin (44). "When we picked (foreign players) in this combination, the evaluation was not very good, but the players are performing so well," she said. "Jung Ho-young and Park Eun-jin are also getting stronger thanks to veteran (middle blocker) Han Song-i," he said, adding, "We will not let our guard down as the season is not over yet."
